Seven Shores Urban Market & Cafe

Good morning everyone! I hope you’re all having a delicious day so far. I have a great meal that I wanted to tell you about – I enjoyed lunch at Seven Shores Urban Market and Cafe in Uptown Waterloo last Thursday. ๐Ÿ™‚ย I normallyย always hate sharing iPhone photos because my iPhone 4 takes pictures no better than, say, a calculator. No, I’m not kidding. Take a look!

Regardless of the fact that these photos are crummy and that I’m forgetful enough to leave my camera at home (probably a good thing, considering the chances of me losing it are 50/50 here). I started off with their organic, house-made chocolate milk, which came in a cute jar. Things in jars make me happy. ๐Ÿ™‚

I think the chocolate milk was made in skim milk and the lady making it didn’t use quite enough cocoa powder, because this was a little bland and tasted like plain ‘ole milk. That might just be my taste buds, though, because I like things REALLY chocolatey, whether that’s chocolate cake squares, oatmeal, or a pot ofย straight up melted chocolate in Paris.

My entree was the crepe, filled with spinach, goat cheese mousse, red peppers, and caramelized onions. The soup of the day was tomato-garlic. The caramelized onions in the crepe really made it special! This was a nice and light entree, but I was still so full afterwards.

So full –> still need dessert, because who doesn’t have a second stomach for sweets? This square was their special carrot cake with cream cheese icing.

It was such a big square, and I should’ve asked for it to be cut in half, but OOPS! It was amazing, though, and I savoured each and every bite. The creamy cheesy frosting was to die for.

Yeah, don’t be fooled by my notes out here. I was “studying”, but not really studying – I mean, HOW can you focus on social stratification and the Thorstein-Veblen thesis (I was studying for my Sociology exam) when there’s a square of carrot cake in front of you?

That is it for today! I’m going to wash some dishes, clean my room a little bit, and in Jack’s wise words: do anything that’s not studying! ๐Ÿ˜‰

One more thing – ONE WEEK until Christmas?! What is this? I’m not complaining – the holiday season always cheers me up, even if the weather doesn’t. I feel like just yesterday, I was scouring the shores of the Sunshine Coast for seashells and seals. Time really does fly. Anyways, enjoy the rest of your week and I will see you in my next post! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. That CARROT CAKE! Baghhh. Carrot cake is my ultimate love. And that one looks right up there in perfection territory. How the heck could you not eat the whole thing? Plus you needed the fuel for all that thrilling studying. Also – goat cheese mousse? Um,yum?

    1. Wooo! I’m glad I’m not the only one who is head-over-heels in LOVE with carrot cake and cream cheese icing. I know some people who hate carrot cake… well, more for us!
The goat cheese mousse was REALLY good! Had some roasted red pepper flavour too. I wonder if it’s possible to recreate it at home!

    1. UGH I know! It was so boring. What kinds of courses do you take in Dietetics? Do you get to choose your classes? I am so curious because I wanted to go to McGill for Nutrition for years, and actually paid my rez deposit and everything before I switched last-minute to Waterloo. ๐Ÿ˜›

      1. No way! What made you change your mind? The Dietetics program is different from the nutrition program, so you really don’t get to choose the classes, as it is a pretty strict and specific program! This semester was a little annoying though, I had Human resources, food service systems management, statistics, human nutrition and accounting (yes… accounting). Im stocked for next semester because I’m taking Nutrition through life, clinical nutrition 1, a stage class and quantity food systems (I think that is the name). What classes are you taking ? ๐Ÿ™‚

      2. I was notified in mid-April that I was one of Canada’s 50 Schulich Leader Scholarship recipients! I was so stunned when I found out that UWaterloo chose me as one of two science recipients for the $60,000 scholarship. That made me change my mind right away, haha! Even though I wasn’t so excited about living in a boring, famously-cold town known for geese and bad weather. ๐Ÿ˜›

… accounting? Oh my goodness. That seems completely unrelated to dietetics! Are you and Jack taking all the same classes? That’s fantastic – I had no idea that you needed to take stats in nutrition.

Now I have two Kinesiology courses (one movement-related, the other neuroscience), Sociology, Biology, and Chemistry. I’m excited for my next semester as well – I get to take two kinesiology courses and a cadaver lab (!), along with human physiology, psychology, and something that I absolutely cannot remember. ๐Ÿ™‚

      3. Oh that’s awesome! Congrats on the scholarship, I can see why you chose to go there! We are in mostly all of the sake classes yes because there is only 1 class of dietetics per year! However since I did a year in physiology I have a lot of courses credited (for example next semester I have 4 classes instead of 6!!)

      4. Oh very cool! I’m glad your next semester is a little more relaxing than what it should be. So you did your first year human phys and are now taking your second year in dietetics? ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. So many great meals, I especially like the pretty design on the tomato soup. Shame about the bland chocolate smoothie … sometimes a girl just doesn’t have enough chocolate in her life. ๐Ÿ™‚

PS: I’ve never made or even eaten, AFAIK, carrot cake.

    1. The design was so special! I saw them give another tomato soup to the man next to me with a completely different design. How creative! It was made with sour cream. ๐Ÿ™‚
It was a chocolate milk so maybe my expectations were a little too high. Okay, a girl can NEVER have enough chocolate. ๐Ÿ™‚
What?! For real? I’ve never made carrot cake either, and have eaten it only occasionally but I love it. Is there a reason why you’ve never made it? Just not a fan?

      1. Somehow there were always better options for cakes/desserts on the restaurant or buffet menus and the carrot cake was way down on the list of possibilities. I know that you add raisins, pineapple, nuts(?) to the batter. And then there’s the cream cheese frosting … but it’s nothing to get me excited by. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Oh dear, the photos are totally different colors! The crepe looks so good. So is the carrot cake. I would eat the whole cake myself too. Maybe we can make a big carrot cake when you get home. How do you think? We have a few parties to attend. Is it a good idea to bring along some desserts?
