I officially hate tomatoes! I’ve always known that I found them sort of… icky.
But oatmeal is still my love. 🙂 This lovely bowl was topped with raspberry oatmeal muffin, maple syrup, and shredded coconut.
Last week, we had brunch (or, more lunch because it was about 12:30) at Trattoria, the new Italian restaurant in Burnaby. My family was pretty excited to try it out. We were all really disappointed when the server didn’t give us the lunch menu – apparently they serve brunch until 3:00. I really wanted to order off the lunch menu!
Grandma started with the asparagus and mushroom omelet with green salad and roasted potatoes. Seline adored the potatoes and probably ate 3/4 of Grandma’s taters! Uncle Charles had a prosciutto pizza.
I tried a slice, and was pretty impressed! The crust was thin and crispy, but nothing special. The prosciutto had great flavour, and I liked the melty blobs of cheese with sharp contrast by the arugula. Yummy!
Grandpa had the tomato pasta with shrimp. He thought it was okay. Mom ordered a panini with fig and prosciutto. This was nothing special either, but the fig jam really stood out.
My plate had a little of everything – seafood omelet from Dad and a meatball from Seline with ricotta cheese, too.
That meatball was the best part! She had three meatballs and I probably ate two of them. 😛
But wait… where was my food?
Then I asked where it went, and the server said it would be coming right up.
When it came, we were all shocked – plain chopped tomatoes with one blob of burrata and three pieces of torn basil. I ordered the caprese salad expecting a lovely array of fresh sliced tomato, basil, and balsamic vinegar, but there was no balsamic at all. There wasn’t even a slice of mozzarella cheese!
Luckily, this came for free because it took so long for them to make it.
But the tomatoes were pretty icky and I did not like them at all!
Luckily dessert redeemed the whole meal: Whole Foods New York Cheesecake with berries. Usually I prefer baking my own cakes, but this was too special to pass up. And, okay, I was pretty disappointed after my soggy, flavourless tomatoes and needed something sweet!
^ it was fantastic. I had two little slices and kept coming back for “one more bite”.
The cheesecake was followed by a 1.5-hour gym session. I HATE going to the gym – I honestly absolutely hate it – as I would much rather be figure skating or practicing aerial silks as I do most of the time. But since I was going to the library anyways, I headed next door to the gym because I had to kill another two hours. 🙂
Workout was followed by a nice dinner: roasted potatoes, maple-soy salmon, and stir-fried bean sprouts. The potatoes and bean sprouts were just okay, but I really loved the salmon as usual.
Dad’s plate included tofu and hard-boiled Chinese-style eggs.
Not a bad dinner! 🙂 The protein-rich salmon was really satisfying after running/ellipticalling.
It’s 12:48 now on a Pro-D Day Friday and I’m currently waiting for my friend to come over so we can study before our AP exams in two weeks. That’s why I haven’t been posting very often these days – super busy with work and studying – but I’ll be back to normal after my last exam on May 14. 🙂 Thanks for reading!
